The Effect of the Ginkgo biloba Extract in the Expression of Bax, Bcl‐2 and Bone Mineral Content of Wistar Rats with Glucocorticoid‐Induced Osteoporosis

Abstract: The EGb improved the Bcl-2 and reduced the Bax expression by osteoblasts in the mandibular alveolar bone and recovered the mineral content in the tibia of rats with glucocorticoid-induced-osteoporosis.

“…Further investigations are needed to explore the relevance of the CRISPR‐cas system and the effect of the E. faecalis strains on apoptosis in osteoblasts. In addition, the expression of Bcl‐2/Bax can be decreased to promote osteoblast apoptosis by glucocorticoids (Lucinda et al., ), sodium fluoride (Yang et al., ), bilirubin (Ruiz‐Gaspa et al., ) and H 2 O 2 (He et al., ), in contrast to the elevated level of Bcl‐2/Bax in saved osteoblast protected by puerarin (Liu et al., ), vaspin (Zhu et al., ) and ghrelin (Liang et al., ). Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) of Escherichia coli can also decrease the Bcl‐2 expression and increase the Bax expression in the MC3T3 cells (Guo et al., ).…”

“…The use of animal models to study drug effects on prevention and treatment of bone diseases, such as periodontal disease and osteoporosis, has increased. A well‐established ABL ligature‐induced model 29 and a previously reported GIOP model 17 were used to study bone resorption and to evaluate the effect of ATV on bone tissue. In this study, ATV prevents ABL, preserves bone structure, shows anti‐inflammatory activity, and reduces oxidative stress, without systemic repercussion in rats with GIOP + EP.…”

“…Group III rats received intramuscular injections of 7 mg/kg of dexamethasone (Decadron, 4 mg/mL, Eipico Egypt) once a week for 10 weeks. [14][15][16] Scarification of all the animals was carried out with ketamine overdose, and the mandibles were dissected. We subjected the right side of each mandible for light microscopic examination, while the left sides of the mandibles were used for scanning electron microscopic (SEM) examination as well as analysis of the constituent element (calcium concentration) using an energy dispersive radiography unit attached to the SEM.…”
