“…Clinically, investigators in Iran reported that serum BDNF concentrations decreased more in primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and NTG patients than in normal patients 14,15 . Recently, similar results were reported from Italy 16 , Turkey 17 , and Russia 18 . BDNF is transported retrogradely from the superior colliculus to the RGCs, and this transport is substantially inhibited by acute IOP elevation 1 .…”

“…The cost is about $ 100 / sample if the sample will be measured every time. In this experiment, an attempt was made to examine aqueous humor BDNF levels using the same R&D Human BDNF Immunoassay which Uzel MM et al 17 used. However, we could not measure BDNF in the aqueous humor at all.…”

“…We chose to develop and test a novel gene therapy construct involving brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its cognate receptor, tropomyosin-related receptor kinase-B (TrkB) 8 10 , whose expression and activation are impaired in rodent 11 – 16 , dog 17 , and primate 18 models of glaucoma. There is also increasing evidence of reduced BDNF and TrkB signaling in human glaucoma 19 22 , including patients with normal tension glaucoma 19 .…”
