The Effect of Transportation Disruptions on Cold Chain Sustainability

Abstract: Food and vaccine supply chains are a top priority in the cold chain sector as consumers are particularly concerned for the quality, safety, and environmental effects of these temperature sensitive products. Moreover, any disruptions to these supply chains will have adverse effects on the overall supply chain system and significantly increase the cost of recovery. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the optimum recovery cost for transportation disruptions in a cold chain system. A mathematical model was de… Show more

“…Improper storage of the products can lead to damage not being purchased by consumers, and ultimately result in the product becoming food waste 25)26) . This product requires special handling through a cold chain system in the distribution process because consumers are very concerned about product quality and safety due to the nature of the product, which is easily damaged 27) .…”

“…Various transportation modes would be eliminated when the used products are circulated, e.g., less raw material extraction demand would result in reduced transportation. Similarly, CE focuses on green energy usage in the transportation modes, maintaining the shortest path and efficient transportation [36][37][38][39] .…”
