The effect of β-mannanase on nutrient utilization and blood parameters in chicks fed diets containing soybean meal and guar gum

Abstract: The present study was conducted to determine whether the addition of β-mannanase in broiler feed changes hormonal profiles in the blood and broiler performance and nutrient availability. Five hundred and four Cobb male chickens were studied during d 7 to 21. Three corn-soybean meal (SBM) based diets 1) Low SBM (18% SBM); 2) High SBM (31% SBM); and 3) High SBM+GG (31% SBM + Guar Gum (GG) 0.5%) with 3 levels of β-mannanase (0, 200, and 400 ppm) were mixed to produce 9 diets. A factorial design 3 × 3 was performe… Show more

“…Moreover supplemented βmannanase to diet that contains antinutritional galactomannan decreased intestinal viscosity and improving feed conversion (Dhawan and Kaur 2007). This improvement in agreement with Caldas, et al (2018) and may be due to βmannanase hydrolyzed galactomannan into to mannose and galactose (El-Masry, et al, 2017 andKurakake, et al, 2006). Mannose has ability to competitive exclusion where it competes with glycoprotein in intestine and prevents colonization and salmonella from attachment with intestinal sites (Berge and Wierup, 2012).…”

“…Specifically, β-mannanase improved AME by 143 kcal/kg concomitant with 3% improvement on growth and FCR. β-Mannanase supplementation has been demonstrated to have positive effects on performance and nutrient digestibility in poultry fed corn-SBM-based diets as well as diets containing guar meal, copra meal, and other β-mannan-containing components ( Daskiran et al, 2004 ; Jackson et al, 2004 ; Ferreira et al, 2016 ; Balasubramanian et al, 2018 ; Caldas et al, 2018 ; Mohammadigheisar et al, 2021 ). Some of these positive effects have been ascribed to mechanisms that are different compared to the modes of action of other NSP carbohydrases such as reducing FIIR.…”

“…The main effects of inclusion of enzyme also had a significant increase in apparent ileal digestibility of a nonessential amino acid, serine, in laying hens ( Table 7 ). In this current study with layers and in Caldas et al (2018) with broilers, partial improvement of apparent ileal digestibility of essential amino acids were observed depending on different levels β-mannanase enzyme being added. Higher ileal amino acid digestibility is observed for broilers with inclusion of β-mannanase, possibly due to broiler diets containing higher levels of CP with more SBM in diet compared to layer diets ( Sundu et al, 2006 ).…”
