The effectiveness and experiences of blended learning approaches to computer programming education

Abstract: ABSTRACT:At the nexus of education and technology, blended learning is growing rapidly. Integrating faceto-face and online learning, blending can enhance learning and optimize seat time. This paper describes the use of the blended e-learning model in a course "Data Structures and Algorithms" given at the Afyon Kocatepe University, Turkey. This model is realized as a combination of a face-to-face environment and online learning, using the University's Learning Management System (LMS) named @KU-UZEM. The LMS con… Show more

“…However, some weaknesses of EL environments, such as physical isolation, lack of explanations in real‐time, delayed feedback (Yang & Cornelius, 2004), have turned researchers' attention to a new learning environment, blended learning (Tayebinik & Putch, 2012). Blended learning, in which flexibility of learning anywhere and anytime is added to the face‐to‐face learning environment (Deperlioglu & Kose, 2013), is mostly accepted a combination of instructional modalities (or delivery media) and methods (Bonk, 2004). According to Tayebinik and Putch (2012), blended learning is more favorable than EL because it presents many advantages for learners like increased communication, engagement of face‐to‐face communication, sense of community, collaborative tasks, adequate feedback, active participation.…”

“…The lack of a single accepted definition for the term blended learning (Deperlioglu & Kose, 2013;Graham, 2012b;Lee, Fong, & Gordon, 2013;Stacey & Gerbic, 2008) causes teachers to understand blended learning in different ways and then design their courses according to their own understanding of the concept. With a large number of blended learning designs, selecting the most appropriate design approach is becoming a major challenge, especially for teachers who lack the necessary theoretical preparation and experimental experience with blended learning, which is the case of the majority of teachers in higher education (Huang & Zhou, 2005).…”

“…It has also become easier to access online lesson content and interactive, electronic applications or tools from any-where, at anytime. At this point, internet and the related technologies have an important role to play in all of these improvements and changes [23] Methods And Techniques:-Design Structure of the Educational Web Page:-In this project the educational website designed using ASP.NET. ASP.NET (Active Server Page) is an open source web framework for building modern web applications and services [24].…”
