The Effectiveness of a Bioactive Food Compound in the Lipid Control of Individuals with HIV/AIDS

Abstract: Cardiovascular events due to decompensated lipid metabolism are commonly found in Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) patients using anti-retroviral therapy (HAART). Thus, the aim of this study was to identify the effect of a bioactive food compound (BFC) containing functional foods on individuals with HIV undergoing HAART. Particularly, this study aims to verify the clinical outcome in the change of the lipid profile due to the use of this compound. This study includes 1… Show more

“…Previous results indicate that BFC exerts an antiatherogenic effect on glycemic control and reduces triglycerides [ 9 , 10 ], which is probably due to its chemical composition, its high linolenic acid, soluble fibers and isoflavone contents, and the benefits observed in this study.…”

“…Database”), there were few changes: 20 more participants in the expected sample amount and inclusion of one more study variable, the Conicity Index. Regarding the bromatological, microbiological and sensory analysis of the BFC and the lipid profile after consumption have already been published in other manuscripts [ 9 , 10 ].…”

“…Some effects from functional foods, such as Avena sativa L. (oats), Linum usitatissimum L. (brown flaxseed), Glycine max L. (soya) and Moringa oleifera, have been presented for nutritional disorders through in vitro and in vivo tests [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ], NCT04314258 ( Table 1 and Table 2 ). In the literature, there is vast knowledge of the benefits of these functional foods.…”

“…In the literature, there is vast knowledge of the benefits of these functional foods. However, a formulation, called a bioactive food compound (BFC), showed efficiency in the association of oats, flaxseed and soy for dyslipidemia and obesity [ 17 , 18 ].…”
