“…Essential oils are involved in many important actions related to the plant survival, playing prominent role in its defense against microorganisms (CechinelFilho et al, 1998;Siqui et al, 2000). The use of essential oils as antimicrobial agents presents two principal characteristics: i) their natural origin meaning more safety for users and environment; ii)there is low risk of rising microbial resistance to their action because essential oils are mixtures of several compounds that, apparently, presents different antimicrobial action making more diffi cult the microbial adaptability (Daferera et al, 2003).
