The effects of 6-gingerol on proliferation, differentiation, and maturation of osteoblast-like MG-63 cells

Abstract: We investigated whether 6-gingerol affects the maturation and proliferation of osteoblast-like MG63 cells in vitro. Osteoblast-like MG63 cells were treated with 6-gingerol under control conditions, and experimental inflammation was induced by tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Expression of different osteogenic markers and cytokines was analyzed by real-time PCR, Western blotting, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. In addition, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzyme activity and biomineralization as markers for d… Show more

“…6G potentiated the toxic effect of cisplatin by amplifying ROS generation. The ability of 6G to enhance intracellular accumulation of cisplatin by reducing its efflux agrees with previous studies that natural agents reverse multidrug resistance involved in regulating the efflux of chemotherapeutic drugs from cells [ 50 - 52 ]. It is possible that 6G exacerbated cisplatin-induced apoptotic cell death in cervical cancer cells by coupling enhanced oxidative stress with increased accumulation of cisplatin.…”

“…In a similar fashion, Fan, Yang, and Bi () investigated the effect of [6]‐gingerol on the production of IL‐6 in osteoblasts. Results revealed that [6]‐gingerol lowers the degree of inflammation in TNF‐α‐treated MG‐63 cells.…”

“…The protective effect of [6]-gingerol with the IL-1β-induced inflammatory response is similar to that of butylated hydroxytoluene, an ROS scavenger. Thus [6]-gingerol could protect HuH7 cells against inflammatory damage induced by IL-1β by inhibiting the ROS/NF-κB/COX-2 pathway. In a similar fashion,Fan, Yang, and Bi (2015) investigated the effect of [6]-gingerol on the production of IL-6 in osteoblasts. Results revealed that [6]-gingerol lowers the degree of inflammation in TNF-αtreated MG-63 cells.…”
