The Effects Of Algal Supplements On Static System Culture Of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (De Man) Larvae1,2

Abstract: The value of algal supplements in rearing Macrobrachium rosenbergii larvae in static water systems was investigated. Larvae were reared in 60 liter fiberglass rounded bottom tanks at concentrations ranging from 50 to 67 larvae/liter. Standard culture methods (used by Marine Resources Research Institute) and feeds (Artemia salina nauplii, TetraMin, fish eggs) were utilized throughout the study. The three major groups of phytoplankters evaluated included the Chlorophyceae (Nannachloris oculata, Dunaliella tertio… Show more

“…The larval development rate was estimated at day 10 and 15 and day 7 and 16 in experiment 1 and 2, respectively, through determining the larval stage index (LSI) according to Maddox and Manzi (1976). The average larval stage of at least 30 larvae from each treatment was recorded based on the description by Uno and Kwon (1969).…”

“…The larvae were obtained from a single oviparous female breeder. The growth parameter larval stage index (LSI) was determined according to Maddox & Manzi (1976) on five randomly sampled larvae from each replicate. The female with fertilized eggs was then maintained for 20-25 days to undergo embryonic development.…”

“…At this time point, larval survival was determined in all other treatments as well. The growth parameter larval stage index (LSI) was determined according to Maddox & Manzi (1976) on five randomly sampled larvae from each replicate.…”
