The effects of Bleomycin A5 on infantile maxillofacial haemangioma

Abstract: ObjectiveTo examine the effects of bleomycin A5 on infantile maxillofacial haemangiomas.MethodsBleomycin A5 was given by multiple intralesinoal injections and the dosage was given according to the age of the patient and size of the lesion. Parts of patients were accompanied by prednisone treatment(2-5 mg/kg, po, QOD.ResultsAll the haemangiomas involuted completely after treated with bloemycin A5 with better recovery of skin color and less scar forming in small haemangiomas.ConclusionInfantile haemangioma could… Show more

“…Furthermore, this pro-apoptotic effect was dose-dependent. These findings provide an explanation for the clinical benefits of pingyangmycin in infantile hemangiomas (14,15). As an active suicidal response, apoptosis is characterized by nuclear condensation and fragmentation, cellular shrinkage without the loss of plasma membrane integrity and apoptotic body formation.…”

“…We discontinued treatment in both cases once we had achieved our goal of preventing stimulus deprivation amblyopia, since the posology reported by Luo and Zhao,[23] had not yet been published and we were of the opinion that the remaining lesions would undergo further spontaneous resolution over time. We considered the use of a topical beta-blocker to expedite this process,[4] but did not have access to a suitable preparation.…”

“…[12345] IBI was used for the first time for complicated cutaneous hemangiomas. [2] Experience with IBI for periocular capillary hemangiomas is very limited.…”

“…[1] We believe clinical evaluation should have been combined with ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging or color doppler to differentiate hemangioma from vascular malformation. [345] Color doppler is also of immense utility during follow-up in detecting size, color, and blood flow changes after IBIs. Blood flow in capillary hemangioma declines after four to five IBIs; blood flow signal disappears earlier than color (usually after five to six IBIs for a lesion diameter less than 4 cm).…”
