The effects of carbon nanofiber on the mechanical properties of glass/coir fiber reinforced polyester hybrid composites

Abstract: Glass and coir fiber hybrid composites were characterized for the addition of 0.1, 0.5, and 1 wt% functionalized fCNFs produced from waste coal fly-ash and were used also as secondary reinforcements for producing both glass and coir fiber composites. Before choosing the hybrid composites fabrication parameters, an optimum fiber mass fraction of glass and coir fibers were obtained by fabricating and mechanically testing the composites specimens with mass fraction of 24, 32, and 40 wt% for glass and 10, 15, and … Show more

“…The study allowed concluding that the carbon nanofibers improved the dispersion within the matrix resulted in better mechanical properties. [441] Ramakrishnan et al established that jute fiber treated with NaOH, together with Cloisite 20A nano-clay, is one of the best reinforcements for the development of epoxy-based polymer matrix composites. [442] Roy et al explained the synergistic effect of short jute fiber and stearic acid modified nanoclay in natural rubber composites, and proposed the probable mechanism of interaction between jute fiber and stearic acid modified nanoclay, which is shown in Figure 33.…”

“…For these reasons, this has gained enhanced attention as a reinforcing filler in various types of polymers. In this regard, some researchers have recently worked on various properties of CNF‐enhanced polymers . One of the major concerns about the fabrication of nanocomposites is to obtain a homogenous dispersion of nanofillers within the matrix .…”
