Co-valorization of Tuff and Sandy Residues in Roads Construction

In recent years, the use of local materials in pavements has developed to compensate for the lack of normalized standard materials in the Algerian arid regions. The main objective of this research is to assess the co-valorization of two local materials to design a road material with satisfactory characteristics. In this context, the use of tuff in combination with sand residues is explored. The evolution of the characteristics of tuffs mixed with sand residues according to percentages ranging from 0% to 50% is highlighted. The used materials were subjected to physical and mechanical tests. Then, a series of mechanical tests were carried out on mixed samples compacted at the optimal characteristics that were deduced from the modified Proctor test. The obtained results highlight the existence of an optimal formulation composed of 70% tuff and 30% sandy residues, which presented an unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of 5.16 MPs and a CBR index (CBRI) of 42.6 %. Moreover, the results show clearly the evolution of the measured characteristics with time (drying) and without the addition of binders. The possibility of the use of studied mixtures in pavements has been verified regarding the recommendations in use (CTTP 2001) and the Saharan Road Technique (SRT). Project completion behind schedule is a struggle for the construction sector, affecting time, cost, and quality. This investigation has been necessitated by the lingering nature of project delay risks despite many extant analyses. This study collated expert opinions from the Thai construction sector on salient construction delay variables and their influence on each other for DEMATEL-SD analysis. The collated data were analysed and found consistent with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.939. Then, the DEMATEL technique was used to establish the influence weight of factors for the System dynamics (SD) analysis. It was discovered that minimising the design error at the preconstruction stage significantly reduces the magnitude of delay. Increasing values of design error and change order increase the rework profile. Besides, the project delivery within the scheduled 232 weeks can be ensured by minimising the threat of design error, design change, change order, rework, productivity problem, and by improving project management. This study adopted a hybrid mathematical system to holistically examine the construction delay risk by comprehensively exploring the dynamics of influencing variables and investigating their impact on the project scheme. The system helps project stakeholders to arrive at an effective decision in overcoming delay risks, thus minimising the cost overrun and improving the project quality.

The construction industry, a pivotal business sector facilitating physical infrastructure and equipment provision, holds a significant indirect influence on diverse industries. This study investigates the role of supply chain management in enhancing sustainable construction practices within the Algerian construction industry. The research delves into the relationship between traditional supply chain management and sustainable construction, employing a quantitative approach. Data collection involved a survey comprising 61 items, utilizing a five-point Likert scale, gathered through an online survey method targeting managers, supervisors, executives, and suppliers in the Algerian construction industry. With 237 participants from construction companies in Algeria, the study utilized Smart PLS for data analysis, confirming a positive relationship between traditional supply chain management and sustainable construction through partial least squares (PLS) path analysis. The findings provide valuable insights for future stakeholders, guiding employers, designers, manufacturers, contractors, and suppliers to enhance supply chain management practices for sustainable construction in Algeria. Consequently, this study offers significant results with practical and theoretical implications, contributing to the integration of sustainable supply chain management in Algerian construction. In summary, the research addresses the relationship challenges between traditional supply chain management and sustainable construction practices in Algeria.
