The Effects of Depletion and Brain Stimulation on Motivation

Abstract: 224 people received real or sham tDCS brain stimulation while undergoing depletion procedures meant to induce mental fatigue. After the brain stimulation was over, they were asked how hard they planned to work on a subsequent task. The brain stimulation helped people perform more work, but only if they were already committed to trying hard on the task.
