“…In the same study, it has been reported that SOD, CAT and GSH peroxidase (GSH-Px), enzyme activation have been increased. 17 Sugita et al 18 have reported that the dex infusion reduces the renal dysfunction developed by I/R during bilateral renal I/R, and also reduces renal parenchyma interleukin-6 (IL-6), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and ICAM-1 mRNA expression. In another study, it has been observed that the dex application reduces kidney caspase 3, plasma ICAM-1 and monocyte chemo attractant protein-1 (MCP-1) levels; and these effects have been inhibited by atipamezole, which is a-2 antagonist.…”

“…An experienced histologist who was blinded to the treatment group semiquantitatively assessed the severity of liver damage in each sample according to the following criteria: sinusoidal dilatation, infiltration, congestion, vacuolization, and loss of glycogen deposition. For each sample, each of these observed parameters of hepatic damage was scored using a grading system with 0 representing absence of damage, 1 representing slight damage, 2 representing moderate damage, and 3 representing severe damage [12,16]. The total liver damage score was then calculated by summing the scores for each parameter; the total possible score was 15, which corresponded to the most severe level of liver damage.…”

“…Recent studies have suggested that Dex also has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-apoptosis effects [10-12]. Xu et al demonstrated that Dex could alleviate LPS-induced acute lung injury in mouse by restraining the inflammatory reactions [13].…”
