“…Some studies have shown that increasing the amount of dietary CP in B. indicus accelerates the onset of puberty (Fajersson et al 1991). Oyedipe et al (1982) reduced the time to the onset of puberty from 23 months with 8.3% CP to 18 months with 19.1% CP.…”

“…In contrast, during the wet season, the availability of fodder to the heifer still in the process of growing tends to minimize the metabolic status of the animal Rhodes et al, 1995). In spite that most of the females responded to treatment forming CL's one cannot rule out the possibility (Fajersson et al, 1991) that although heifers have reached puberty defined as the presence of a CL, there might be a possible interaction between age and adult weight involved in the maturation of follicles or the formation of CL's that do not support a viable embryo.…”

“…These results confirmed that protein levels in growing animals can speed up certain physiological processes such as the onset of puberty. Subsequently, Fajersson et al (1991) supplemented heifers in the humid tropics of Mexico (12 B. taurus and 12 Bos indicus) with two different levels of protein (12.8% and 16.4%) and ad libitum diet from weaning at 3 months until the onset of puberty. Their results suggested that there was a significant effect of breed on age at the onset of puberty (9.4 months for the B. taurus heifers and 12.3 months for Zebu heifers).…”
