The effects of Ginger (Zingiber officinale) roots on the reproductive aspects in male Japanese Quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

Abstract: Background The Japanese quail is considered one of the most significant species in the poultry industry. However, the high male-to-female ratio results in the aggressive behavior of males. Dietary strategies that improve the properties of semen could reduce the number of males required to maintain optimal fertility and reduce aggressive behavior. Therefore, this study aims to provide insight into the possible improving efm fect of ginger roots on the reproductive aspects of Japanese male quails… Show more

“…The quail industry stands as the third-largest sector within the global poultry domain, with its breeding segment showing gradual expansion ( Abdelfattah et al, 2023 ; Batool et al, 2023 ). Quails exhibit a noteworthy laying rate, sustaining at roughly 80% even beyond the peak laying period.…”

“…Even though there have been associated beneficial effects of Zingiber officinale on reproductive profiles in male rats, which were established with increased sperm parameters, testosterone, FSH and LH levels. [10][11][12][13] It is important to investigate its effect on reproductive indices in adulthood following a prepubertal exposure as a reproductive preparatory stage that is vulnerable. Hence, this study was designed to evaluate the possible effects of prepubertal exposure to ginger suspension on reproductive hormones in adulthood.…”

“…As a result, adopting nutritional strategies that enhance reproductive capabilities could offer a promising solution to minimise the required number of male quails needed to maintain peak fertility. This approach could help diminish aggression and associated expenses linked to raising males, thus supporting optimal fecundity while reducing costs (Abdelfattah et al, 2023).…”
