The Effects of Intumescent Flame Retardant and Nanoclay on Mechanical and Thermal Expansion Properties of High Density Polyethylene Composites

Abstract: In this work, ammonium polyphosphate and melamine were added as a flame retardant to the nanoclay reinforced high-density polyethylene composites. Ammonium polyphosphate and melamine were added at weight ratios of 0 wt% and 20 wt% to the polymer matrix and their proportions are changed. The addition of nanoclay was carried out at weight ratios of 2 wt% to the polymer matrix. Blending operations were performed by premixing with a mechanical stirrer and melt extrusion technique with twin screw extrusion, respect… Show more

“…Moreover, the Charpy impact test was carried out also on un-notched specimens of aged composites, which are the composite submitted only to the accelerated aging, and therefore before undergoing to the recycling process. Commonly, the un-notched impact resistance of a material may be one or two orders of magnitude higher than the notched impact resistance for the same material, as reported in several works [34][35][36] and the theory of work of fracture can explain these differences. As a matter of fact, in the un-notched impact strength the entire test piece receives the impact energy caused by the hammer striking, whereas in determining the notched impact strength, breakage is promoted by concentrating the impact energy on the notch.…”

“…SRA sistemi genellikle asit, karbon ve gaz kaynaklı üç ana madde içerir. Genellikle kombinasyon olarak kullanılırlar ve tipik bir örnek amonyum polifosfat (APP), pentaeritritol (PER) ve melamin (MEL)'nin bileşiğidir [13], [19].…”
