The effects of midazolam and etomidate on the antioxidant system in the rat liver

Abstract: This study was conducted to investigate the histopathological and biochemical effects of midazolam and etomidate, which are intravenous anesthetics used in surgical operations, on rat liver. There were 3 study groups each consisting of 9 animals: the control, midazolam, and etomidate groups. Midazolam and etomidate were administered 10 times with 1-day intervals. At the end of the study, tissues were taken for histological examination and biochemical analysis. We determined superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase… Show more

“…At 6 weeks old, the dorsal area hairs of the rats were removed and used for blank rat hair. One day after shaved hair on the back, the rats were weighed (330 ± 50 g), and 10 mg/kg/day of etomidate was administered through intraperitoneal injection to the rats 15 F I G U R E 1 Chemical structures of etomidate, etomidate acid, and internal standard times for 3 weeks [13,14]. A week after from final administration, the hairs on the back that had grown during the administration period were separately shaved and collected.…”
