“…Concerning the power spectral analysis of the RR intervals, in none of the tested bands (B1-B4) significant differences in the recordings were found before and with Cardiology 1998;89: [14][15][16][17][18] Andersen * p ! 0.05, n = 21.…”

“…The effect of neurostimulation has been linked to a form of sympathectomy [11,14]. Indeed sympathectomy is used to treat angina, and Apthorp et al [15] found that it relieved angina in about 75% of the patients. Since the exact causation of spinal cord stimulation is unknown, we measured the autonomic tone of the heart in patients before they were given spinal stimulation, to evaluate whether neurostimulation could give the patient an 'electrical sympathectomy'.…”

“…In angina pectoris it seems that catecholamines exert an unfavourable effect on the balance between the supply and demand for oxygen by the myocardium. Since these observations a small number of cases of angina pectoris have been improved to some degree by cervical sympathectomy [3,7,25]. It is therefore reasonable to consider that a sympatholytic drug might improve patients with angina pectoris.…”
