The Effects of Teaching Mathematics Performed with the Help of CSCM on Conceptual Learning

Abstract: This paper explores the effect of teaching mathematics performed with the help of Computer-Supported Concept Maps (CSCM) on the conceptual learning. To achieve this end, CSCM were developed and used in the process of teaching probability subject. Within the true-experimental research method, a pre-and post-test control groups study was conducted with 39 seventh graders-20 in experimental group, and 19 in the control group. Each group was taught three times/week, 40 min/session, for 2 weeks. A 12-item instrumen… Show more

“…Computer-Supported Teaching (CST) is a strategy that has been employed lately in teaching processes around the World (Baki, Kösa and Güven, 2011;Gürbüz, Erdem and Fırat, 2012;Huang, Liu and Shiu, 2008;Lazakidou and Retalis, 2010;Liu, Lin and Kinshuk, 2010;Monteserin et al, 2010;Zydney, 2010). CST can be defined as an interactive teaching strategy which is used in organizing the materials in a computer environment, which easily displays them to students and thus, enhances learning.…”

“…Concept mapping has been a subject of investigation for some time now, and in education, it is a tool for research, communication and notably it is a process of establishing relationship between concepts. Concept maps can enhance the acquisition of macro‐level ideas , improve affective responses to studying and testing , enhance cooperative learning and lead to positive transfer of text processing skills .…”
