“…Acclimation to saltwater did not affect concentrations in either strain. Other studies that separated male and female animals showed that bifenthrin reduced E2 in females (and oocyte development) after acclimation [34]. These results are consistent with studies in catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis), which reported a significant decrease in E2 and 11-KT levels after 45 d of exposure to 20 mg/ L cypermethrin [35].…”

“…Bifenthrin increased estrogen associated choriogenin and VTG plasma protein in Menidia beryllina as well as plasma estradiol-17b (E2) at 0.1 and 1.5 lg/L in juvenile RT (Brander et al 2012;Forsgren et al 2013). It also increased VTG in larval (0.07 lg L -1 ) and adult (0.140 lg L -1 ) FHM (Beggel et al 2011).…”

“…A significant increase was observed in plasma estradiol of steelhead trout exposed to high bifenthrin concentrations (608 ± 182 ng/L). In male steelhead exposed to 28 ± 6 ng/L for 2 wk, a significant decrease in gonadal somatic indices was observed, whereas a significant increase in follicle diameter was noted in females . Although treatment with 1 ng/L (nominal) of bifenthrin failed to induce Vtg in Japanese medaka, combinations of 1 ng/L bifenthrin with diuron, 4‐nonylphenol, 4‐octylphenol, and the corresponding 1‐carbon ethoxylates of the alkylphenols led to a significant induction of estrogenic activity .…”
