The Effects of Workplace Nature-Based Interventions on the Mental Health and Well-Being of Employees: A Systematic Review

Abstract: high risk of bias in the individual studies. Although in this field often researchers have to balance scientific rigor and ecological validity, there is a need for large, well-designed and rigorously conducted trials grounded in contemporary theories.

“…Such strategies should consider the positive impact of exercise and being in nature as reported in this study, which is known to support well-being and mental health. [48][49][50][51] The Tragic Choices reported within this study are influenced by ethical, moral and professional dilemmas. Paramedics reported feeling they were unable to deliver the standard of care they would usually provide, which has been reported in other studies, and may increase risk of moral injury.…”

“…The positive impact of exercise and being in nature was reported, and many studies have identified the positive relationship between nature and good mental health and well-being. [48][49][50][51] Moral injury can however have benefits, as those individuals and organisations who have endured such experiences during the crises have experienced post-traumatic growth. 34 Indeed, Rothes et al (2020) reported such professional growth and increased awareness in paramedics following their experiences with patients who died by suicide, but this relied on supportive cultures, training and preparation to overcome the negative emotional impact.…”

“…W ostatnich latach nastąpił istotny zwrot w kierunku włączania interwencji opartych na kontakcie z przyrodą (nature-based interventions) w główny nurt działań poprawiających dobrostan psychiczny populacji. Zarówno międzynarodowe gremia naukowe, jak i polscy specjaliści dostrzegają korzyści dla zdrowia psychicznego płynące z kontaktu ze środowiskiem naturalnym (Albers et al, 2021;Cuthbert et al, 2021;Gritzka et al, 2020;Hunter et al, 2019;Murawiec i Tryjanowski, 2020;Mygind et al, 2019;Robinson et al, 2020). W bazie PubMed wyszukiwanie z zastosowaniem deskryptorów nature-based interventions oraz mental health skutkuje znalezieniem 1811 prac z lat 2018-2021.…”

“…Z uwagi na brak wystarczającej liczby heterogenicznych badań autorzy dostępnych metaanaliz traktują zbiorczo różnorodne interwencje oparte na kontakcie ze środowiskiem przyrodniczym. Przeglądy systematyczne i metaanalizy z ostatnich lat (Corazon et al, 2019;Djernis et al, 2019;Gritzka et al, 2020;Picton et al, 2020;Pretty i Barton, 2020;Trøstrup et al, 2019) wskazują na efekty w postaci zmniejszenia stresu, poprawy ogólnego samopoczucia, wzmocnienia więzi społecznych, obniżenia lęku i złagodzenia objawów depresyjnych czy wzrostu motywacji do prowadzenia zdrowszego stylu życia. Jednocześnie naukowcy podkreślają konieczność dalszych badań, uwzględniających analizy porównawcze z udziałem grup kontrolnych, a także pomiary bezpośrednich i długofalowych efektów terapii wraz z oceną ich trwałości.…”

“…Currently, there are a growing number of studies in the literature evaluating the relationship between mental health and work. This fact can be explained by the increased prevalence of mental and behavioral disorders in workers in several countries, including Brazil ( 11 - 13 ). However, studies on this topic, in adolescents, are still scarce, which is an important gap in the literature.…”
