The Efficacy of Choice-Making as an Intervention for Individuals with ASD: Meta-Analysis of Single-Subject Research

Abstract. This study presents the result of existing literature review of experimental studies to determine the effect of choice-making as an intervention on the reduction of challenging behavior or individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This integrated literature review was based on studies published between 1975 and 2014 which included both English and Korean studies regarding data decreasing challenging behaviors during the after choice-making intervention in decision making procedure. A search of the PsycINFO and ERIC databases yielded 23 studies that met the meta-analysis criteria, with intervention affection 64 participants. The impact of choice interventions was evaluated using the percentage nonoverlapping data (PND) metrics. Overall providing choice opportunities resulted in clinically significant reductions in the number of occurrences of problem behavior.
