The Efficiency of Agricultural Production in FADN Regions in 1996-2011

Abstract: This paper examines the efficiency of agricultural production in the European Union and traces changes in the specialization of EU regions in terms of agricultural production using a territorial division based on the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). The studied period is from 1996 to 2011. The basic tool of quantitative analysis is the Data Envelopment Analysis method for testing the relative efficiency of objects. It is assumed that FADN regions are Decision Making Units as (DMUs) as defined by the DEA (… Show more

“…It can be noted that on average, efficiency is high, up to 99%. Such a result is different from the results of other studies comparing agricultural efficiency in EU countries or regions (Sielska and Kuszewski 2016;Martinho 2017). This difference is due to at least three reasons.…”

“…Still, continuous population growth exerts pressure on growing production to ensure food security. According to Sielska and Kuszewski (2016), most agricultural producers have limited possibilities for changing their production. With agricultural producers' effort to produce as much as possible with the given inputs, the efficiency inputs -outputs transformation comes to the fore.…”
