The Eleven Antenna: A Compact Low-Profile Decade Bandwidth Dual Polarized Feed for Reflector Antennas

Abstract: Abstract-A novel dual polarized ultrawide-band (UWB) feed with a decade bandwidth is presented for use in both single and dual reflector antennas. The feed has nearly constant beam width and 11 dBi directivity over at least a decade bandwidth. The feed gives an aperture efficiency of the reflector of 66% or better over a decade bandwidth when the subtended angle toward the sub or main reflector is about 53 , and an overall efficiency better than 47% including mismatch. The return loss is better than 5 dB over … Show more

“…At those frequencies, printed antenna technology is preferred and, moreover, it can be easily combined with bolometers [6], [7]. One such feed is presented in [13]. However, due to fabrication constraints at submillimeter waves, it is highly convenient that printed antennas can be implemented within a single planar metallization layer (uniplanar structure).…”

“…Therefore, the new antenna is referred to as the self-grounded Bow-Tie. This truncation method is partly inspired by our other UWB antenna research activities [6]- [12]. Fig.…”

“…Part (b) shows the same over 600 MHz to 2000 MHz. The system gain G sys has been approximately calculated from the terminated characteristics using Equation (1), where, k = 1.38 × 10 −23 J/K (Boltzmann constant), T rec = 50 ‡ , T load = 300 K and f = 300000 Hz is the resolution bandwidth. The gain plots are also shown in Fig.…”

“…This requires ultra wideband antenna-feeds mounted at the focus of radio telescope (dish reflector) antennas. Several ultra wideband antennas that shows the possibility of being used as antenna-feed with parabolic reflectors has been reported [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. However, the actual testing of any of these on radio telescope antennas has not been reported so far.…”
