The ellagitannin HeT induces electrolyte leakage, calcium influx and the accumulation of nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide in strawberry

“…In a previous work, we have determined that HeT increased in the leaves of strawberry plants inoculated with an avirulent isolate of Colletotrichum fragariae but not in those challenged with a virulent isolate of Colletotrichum acutatum or in noninoculated plants under controlled conditions . It was also observed that when HeT was sprayed over strawberry plants, it could protect them against a subsequent pathogen attack. ,, This biological activity includes the activation of innate plant immunity associated to molecular and biochemical changes in plant cells such as a fast electrolyte leakage, plasma membrane hyperpolarization, rapid calcium influx, and the accumulation of nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide in plant cells .
