Abstract

The legacy of the Railway Chemists is traced after the Grouping of 1923. The work they have accomplished includes: water analyses; the study of lubrication (including the recycling of oil in diesel locomotives); addressing the problems of adhesion and wheel slip; examination of a vast range of materials; and environmental work.
