The easiest and most accessible way for learners to meet their translation needs is by using Google Translate. Machine translation is now an integral part of learning a foreign language, particularly Google Translate (GT), which has influenced EFL learning as an online dictionary. It is used to translate from the source language to the target language. It is widely used by Afghan second-language learners today for translating between English and Farsi languages. The purpose of the present study was to explore students’ attitudes and perceptions toward using Google Translate in EFL classes at the Ghor Institute of Higher Education. The data for this study were collected using a five-point Likert questionnaire and interviews with 145 English-major university students at the English Department and were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. After analyzing the data, the results indicated that almost all of the participants reported using GT. The three most frequent uses of GT were to look up the meanings of unfamiliar words and to translate sentences from English to Farsi and vice versa, while translating paragraphs and articles (discourse level) was the least frequent. The results also showed that a majority of the population frequently used GT in their classes, and less than half said they used it sometimes, but the rest stated they used it always and rarely, with a very small percentage admitting they never utilized it. All in all, most of the students expressed a high level of positive attitudes toward using GT as a language learning tool in EFL classrooms. It is expected that GT will be better utilized in the future after knowing students’ perceptions and attitudes toward using it; that is, it may assist lecturers and educational practitioners in making informed decisions about its utilization in the classroom.

This study aims to examine the integration of Google Translate as a machine translation tool in the EFL students’ thesis writing process. Framed within the explanatory sequential mixed methods, the study utilized a survey and an open-ended interview. Using a purposive sampling technique, this study included fifty EFL students in North Bali, Indonesia, in the survey and five students voluntarily in the interview session. Measured using the Gregory Formula, content validity results from the two raters showed that the survey and interview guide were valid (.1) and reliable (α=.809). The survey data were analyzed using Ideal Mean Score analysis and the interview transcripts data were analyzed using Interactive Model analysis. Results reveal that Google Translate benefited the students in the thesis writing process. The interactive model analysis resulted in main themes of the strengths, comprising sub-themes of functions and features of Google Translate and weaknesses, involving sub-themes of contextuality, grammar accuracy, and academic integrity issues. It can be concluded that the use of Google Translate can be helpful in assisting students’ thesis writing with several considerations.

Penguatan kapasitas dalam bentuk pelatihan administrasi surat menyurat dan proposal kegiatan di Desa Pernek dilakukan karena sejauh ini masih sering ditemukan kesalahan dalam menyusun surat dan pembuatan proposal kegiatan. Kendati demikian, karena dituntut oleh tugas dan tanggung jawab pada pelayanan di Desa, kesalahan tersebut sudah dianggap sebagai hal yang biasa. Oleh karena itu, kami dari Universitas Teknologi Sumbawa bekerjasama dengan pemerintah Desa Pernek memberikan pelatihan seperti yang terdapat dalam tema kegiatan pengabdian ini. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah untuk memberikan pemahaman dan meningkatkan kemampuan paerangkat Desa Pernek dalam penyusun surat menyurat dan proposal kegiatan. Adapun metode pelaksanaan dalam pengabdia ini adalah, ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawan, penugasan secara kelompok dan individu. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini, yakitu,, terbentuknya staf desa yang memiliki kemampuan dalam penyusun surat menyurat tanpa harus bergantung pada copy dan paste surat yang ada. Selain itu staf Desa Pernek dapat mandiri dalam menyusun proposal kegiatan, proposal anggaran, dan proposal lainnya yang biasanya selama ini lebih dominan dilakukan oleh orang lain di luar sataf Desa Pernek.
