Organisations are increasingly looking beyond the firm to seek value creating opportunities. In particular, with the rise of digital technologies a new era of platforms, and business models, has enabled organisations, and respective strategists, to rethink how they compete. Greater openness and collaboration are redrawing organisational and industry boundaries, allowing opportunities within ecosystems. This chapter seeks to explore how competition has evolved over the past decades culminating in a new era of ecosystems competition. The author provides a framework to support strategists in mapping the competition landscape with a series of strategic insights offering academic and practitioner reflections.
