The estimation of kinetic parameters of the solid-liquid extraction process of the lavender flower (Lavandula x hybrida L.)

Abstract: The use of medicinal plants has been well documented for the past several decades. Plants from the Lavender genus are used for culinary purposes, but also as a part of herbal medicine, owing its benefits to essential oils and bioactive compounds. A detailed description of the extraction process dynamics is required to obtain the highest possible amount of bioactive compounds from lavender. In this study, a solid-liquid extraction of lavender flowers, using water as solvent, was performed. Total polyphenols, dr… Show more

“…A significant increase in EC was found by PEF, US and PEF-US than untreated extract. Similar findings regarding EC were recorded for combined treatment US and ohmic hydro-distillation for extract from zenyan oil (CVETKOVIĆ et al 2018). Protein mixture results were 1.861, 1.927 and 1.944 mg/mL for US, PEF, and PEF-US, and a significant difference (p \ 0.05) was observed in PEF-US sample than control (1.80).…”

“…TDS of industrial hemp extracts were determined using a Seven Compact conductometer (Mettler Toledo, Greifensee, Switzerland). After cooling the hemp extracts to room temperature, a probe was submerged into the extracts and left until the TDS on the conductometer stabilised 29 . All measurements were carried out in duplicate, and average results were further used for modelling.…”

“…Three widely used models of extraction kinetics [28,30] were evaluated for extraction of the red pigments from the fermented solids. The models were the first-order kinetic model [31], Peleg's model [4,26,28,30,32,33] and logarithmic model [4,26,28,30]. The equations of the model were as follows:…”

“…Natural colorants extracted from plants, animals and microorganisms are in demand as substitutes for synthetic pigments used as food colorants. Although most natural colorants are extracted from plants [1][2][3][4][5], microorganisms [6][7][8][9][10][11] offer an attractive alternative for several reasons. Unlike plants, microorganisms can be grown anywhere, anytime and under controlled culture conditions to provide a high and consistent productivity of the target compound.…”
