The timber industry is one of the oldest industries in Russia, associated with the harvesting and processing of wood. It is responsible for the stock of wood, its removal, primary processing and waste disposal. On the territory of the country there is 1/4 of all the world’s timber reserves, the volume of timber harvesting is estimated at hundreds of millions of cubic meters. An integral part of the logging process is the generation of waste, the volume of which is directly related to the volume of logging operations. Every year in the Russian Federation, 35.5 million m³ of wood waste is generated, which worsens the ecological situation. Forest fires and insect pests are also one of the main causes of the weakening and death of forests. Areas with abandoned wood, affected plantings require priority development, and low-quality wood should be recycled to obtain recyclable materials. The introduction of resource-saving, environmentally friendly and efficient technology, which provides for the processing of waste and the use of secondary raw materials, will help minimize the negative impact of unclaimed wood on the environment.

The interaction of the wheel and the rail, being the physical basis for the movement of trains, determines not only such important technical and economic indicators of railway transport as the weight of trains and their speed, the reliability and operational life of wheel sets, but also the basis of the foundations of railway operation - the safety of train traffic. Therefore, studies of the problems of interaction of the wheel-rail friction pair are relevant and in demand not only within the framework of a particular wagon or locomotive depot, but also in the country’s railway transport as a whole. In this regard, it is important to note that one of the main and most loaded elements of the undercarriage of locomotives and wagons that directly interact with the rails are railway wheels. An important factor in the development and implementation of new surface hardening technologies is: firstly, rising prices and corresponding costs for the production of metal products for wheels with high energy consumption, secondly, increasing costs for spare parts, maintenance and overhaul of wheel sets; thirdly, the rise in prices for energy carriers and transportation costs for their delivery; traditional heat treatment is almost impossible to achieve.

One of the characteristic properties of organofluorine compounds is their low surface energy. In this regard, surfactants containing perfluoroalkyl groups, as a rule, are much more effective than their nonfluorinated analogues. The unique character of fluorinated surfactants is also determined by their pronounced oleophobic properties. Surfaces treated with fluorinated surfactants are not only water-repellent, as in the case of their hydrocarbon analogues, but also benzo- and oil-repellent. Fluorotensides are highly resistant to oxidants and aggressive substances (acids, alkalis, chlorine, etc.). They also have high temperature resistance, withstand oxygen shock, have a solidification temperature of up to -160 °C, do not change properties at a dose rate of up to 108 rad. The applications of surfactants are extremely diverse. One of the methods of increasing the wear resistance of friction pairs is the method of surface treatment of friction pairs with fluorotensides. Fluorotensides are multicomponent systems that include organofluorine surfactants in various solvents and regulatory additives. In Russia, brands of fluorotensides have been created that surpass foreign samples in many respects, which has significantly expanded the scope of their application.
