The Evolution of Helicobacter pylori Antibiotics Resistance Over 10 Years in Beijing, China

Abstract: The trend of clarithromycin, metronidazole, and fluoroquinolone resistance of H. pylori increased over time and the resistance to amoxicillin and tetracycline was infrequent and stable in Beijing. Clarithromycin, metronidazole, and fluoroquinolone should be used with caution for H. pylori eradication treatment.

“…Secondary resistance to levofloxacin (LEV) increased from 38% in 2006 to 82% in 2009. Resistance to ampicillin (AMP) and tetracycline (TET) was consistently negligible (3). A similar trend was observed in a European cohort between 2004 and 2007 where, altogether, secondary CLR resistance was 68%, MET resistance was 75%, and quinolone resistance was 20% (4).…”

“…Prevalence of bacterial resistance to antibiotics varies in different geographic areas and it has been correlated with the consumption of antibiotics in the general population [4,5]. For example, MNZ resistance varies from 10 to 80% among geographic regions [6][7][8][9]. In developing countries antibiotic resistance is considered to be higher than in developed countries.…”
