The evolution of secondary flow phenomena and their effect on primary shock conditions in shock tubes: Experimentation and numerical model

Abstract: Compressed gas-driven shock tubes are widely used for laboratory simulation of primary blasts by accurately replicating pressure profiles measured in live-fire explosions. These investigations require sound characterization of the primary blast wave, including the temporal and spatial evolution of the static and dynamic components of the blast wave. The goal of this work is to characterize the propagation of shock waves in and around the exit of a shock tube via analysis of the primary shock flow, including sh… Show more

“…Several variants of shock tube models have been used in the past 10 years to study behavioral outcome of bTBI in rodent models. A recent review from our group has listed the types of shock tubes used in bTBI with some of the geometric, process and test parameters ( 9 ). The variations in those parameters result in inconsistent findings of behavioral outcome ( 9 ).…”

“…The hypersonic is possible in the uniform cross section and the variable cross section. Due to the safety and the cost of the work usually, supersonic shock tubes were used widely (Kahali et al, 2020). Initially, with less knowledge about the design and fabrication of a shock tube, a lot of designs were carried out to be developed into a shock tube.…”
