The Evolution of the Wave‐One Ozone Maximum During the 2017 LASIC Field Campaign at Ascension Island

Abstract: The Wave One Ozone Maximum (WOOM) was identified nearly three decades ago and represented the largest tropospheric ozone signal in the tropics (Fishman et al., 1991;Thompson et al., 2003). Biomass burning, lightning, and the long-range transport from South America and Africa to South Tropical Atlantic (STA) Ocean are thought to contribute to the wave-one ozone maximum during September, October, and November (SON) across the STA (Jenkins et al., 1997).
