The fabrication and characterization of casein/PEO nanofibrous yarn via electrospinning

Abstract: Casein, a natural protein, has been used as a biopolymer-based resource for producing fiber. This fiber provides high comfort properties with a pH close to human skin. This study focused on evaluating the production feasibility of casein nanofiber twisted yarn with the highest protein content in the hybrid yarn, obtaining suitable spinning conditions and desirable properties of the produced yarn. The desirable yarn achieved by composing 90% casein and 10% polyethylene oxide. The yarn strengthened using several… Show more

“…The cross-linking of PVA reduces the hydrophilicity of the membrane and provides a resistant support network for the immobilization of biomolecules. [16,17,19] Therewithal, GLA is by far the most widely used chemical agent for SC cross-linking due to its high efficiency in stabilizing protein-based materials (particularly collagen, and casein). [23] In the study of Huang et al, casein cross-linked with GLA was used to cover magnetic particles.…”

“…For instance, the peak at 3297 cm –1 corresponding to the −OH group of the PVA polymer has found to be shifted to 3285 cm –1 . From this shifting behavior of the peak for the casein/PVA blend materials, it can be hypothesized that there are some interactions which can take place between the casein molecules and PVA polymer chains. , For better understanding of the presence of various functional groups in the casein molecule, the chemical structure is presented in Figure c.…”
