The features of steel surface hardening with high energy heating by high frequency currents and shower cooling

Abstract: Abstract. The paper examines the process of surface hardening of steel 45 with the help of high energy heating by high frequency currents with simultaneous shower water cooling. We theoretically justified and experimentally proved a possibility of liquid phase forming in the course of heating not on the surface, but in the depth of the surface layer. IntroductionSurface hardening of steel workpieces with concentrated energy sources is characterized by high rates of heating (tens of thousands of degrees a secon… Show more

“…The softer is the film, the more it spreads in the deformation process and the process of the contacting surfaces area increase. Solid film crack without increasing their surface and enable the ions and electrons of the metal to migrate to the contact surface [19][20][21][22][23][24]. It is therefore important to know the characteristics of the formed layer on the DGW surface.…”

“…On the other hand, outside the point laser heating, the metal is in a normal state, that is, it is not exposed to temperature effects, and, therefore, presents a barrier for expanding the volume of newly formed structures in the local area. This will entail elastic and then plastic deformations, which, upon cooling, will form a gradient structure with increased residual compressive stresses [9]. As a result, the essence of LLI process is in the creation of a structure that would have distinctive features from the base metal in terms of mechanical properties (in a manner similar to brittle materials) [2].…”

“…Surely the defects can develope further under high temperature and pressure in the cutting zone [24][25][26][27][28]. It seems plausible that synthesis of defect-free diamonds might be one of the promising ways to prevent loading of metal-bonded grinding wheels [21,[29][30][31].…”
