The ferromagnetic [Ln2Co6] heterometallic complexes

Abstract: Four 3d-4f heterometallic complexes with the formula, {[LnCo(OH)(L)(L)(CHCN)]·nCHCl} (Ln = Dy (1), n = 0.5; Ho (2), n = 1; Gd (3), n = 1; Y (4), n = 1; HL = 6-chloro-2-pyridinol, HL = pivalic acid), were synthesized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that complexes 1-4 consisted of a [LnCo] core, featuring a Ln-Ln edge-sharing double-trigonal-bipyramid configuration. The magnetic susceptibilities revealed ferromagnetic coupling within complexes 1 and 2, and complex 1 displayed slow relaxation … Show more

“…Similar plots of χ′ and χ″ vs T had been obtained with the comparison of data under a zero-dc field, indicating the ineffective suppression of QTM by the application of an external field. Similar magnetic behavior has been commonly observed in other polynuclear 4f and 3d–4f clusters consisting of eight- or nine-coordinated lanthanide ions, but rarely observed in the systems consisting of L 2– . In this situation, the relaxation time (τ 0 ) and effective energy barrier ( U eff ) cannot be simulated through the Arrhenius method.…”

“…Frontiers in Chemistry frontiersin.org mode, two NO 3 − anions and two H 2 O molecules located above and below the plane, respectively. The average bond lengths of Gd-O and Gd-N are 2.379 (5) Å and 2.460 ( 5) Å (Supplementary Table S1), respectively, which are in accordance with those of the reported Gd-based complexes (Chen et al, 1995;Zhao et al, 2017;Mayans and Escuer, 2021;Ren et al, 2021). In complex 1, the Gd ion is seven-coordinated to form a capped trigonal prism, which is confirmed by CShM calculations (Alvarez et al, 2005;Casanova et al, 2005) (Supplementary Figure S1, Supplementary Table S4).…”

“…In this case, the combination of 3 d and 4 f ions may be an effective strategy, because the intermediate magnetic exchange between 3 d ‐4 f ions may generate both a high‐spin state and magnetic anisotropy and improve the energy barrier U eff for spin reversal. Consequently, a lot of 3 d ‐4 f complexes showing SMM behaviors have been reported . The most attentions are focused on [Cu‐Ln], [Mn‐Ln] systems, and [Fe‐Ln] SMMs are less developed.…”
