“…The genotype that is detected in persistently infected brain tissues is usually consistent with the genotype that was circulating at the time when the patient experienced acute measles infection. However, to our knowledge, viruses belonging to only 10 different genotypes have been isolated from SSPE patients (A, B, C1, C2, D1, D3, D4, D5, D7, E and F), while only three genotypes have been found in MIBE patients (A, B3 and E) [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 ]. That the latter occurs exclusively in immunocompromised subjects may explain that a vaccine strain (genotype A) [ 13 ] has been found to be the cause of at least one case of MIBE, whereas vaccine strains of measles have not been isolated in any cases of SSPE [ 20 ].…”

“…These hypermutations are known to play an important role in the glycoprotein interaction and to hamper the ability of measles virus strain to produce cell-free infectious viral particles, and ultimately incorporated in the maintenance of persistent infection, disease development, and fulminant escalation. [2][3][4][5] Moreover, no genome sequences of measles vaccine strains were detected from SSPE cases. [2][3][4][5] I presume that a similar molecular characterization of the whole genome of MV in the studied patient was envisaged.…”

I presume that the task could not be contemplated probably due to financial constraints.…”
