“…Regarding subtypes of Blastocystis sp., our results are consistent with previous reports for Colombia and the Americas ( Jiménez et al, 2019 ). Few studies have described subtypes circulating in humans and animals in Colombia; however, they agree that ST1, ST2 and ST3 subtypes are the most frequent ( Ramírez et al, 2016 ; Ramirez et al, 2014 ; Higuera et al, 2020a ; Sánchez et al, 2017 ; Villamizar et al, 2019 ; Potes-Morales et al, 2020 ). In this study, one sample from a control and one sample from a SpA patient were clustered with ST6, which is not frequent in the Americas.…”
