The Fracture Characteristic of Mode III Rock Crack under Different Temperature

Abstract: A series of torsion tests under different temperature were carried out with circumferential notched cylindrical rock specimens. By this kind of specimens, mode III rock crack propagation in real meaning was realized. The initiation torsion M of the mode III rock crack was measured under different temperature. The variation law of M v.s. temperature T was obtained. The initiation stress near crack tip under different temperatures was calculated by finite element method, and then, the mode III fracture toughness… Show more

“…In some other underground engineering such as landfilling nuclear waste and garbage, the stability problems of fractured rock mass are also appeared under these environments. Currently, there are already some studies on the variations of the mode I fracture toughness K IC under different temperatures [1,2] , there are also some studies of the variations of the mode III fracture toughness K IIIC and the mixed mode I-III toughness under different temperatures [3][4][5][6] , so it is necessary to research the variations of the mode II fracture toughness K IIC under different temperatures and confining pressures. In this paper a new type of mode II rock crack fracture experiment has been designed and processed under different loading environments.…”
