A phylogenetic analysis based on 311 morphological characters is presented for most species of the Doradidae, all genera of the Auchenipteridae, and representatives of 16 other catfish families. The hypothesis that was derived from the six most parsimonious trees support the monophyly of the South American Doradoidea (Doradidae plus Auchenipteridae), as well as the monophyly of the clade Doradoidea plus the African Mochokidae. In addition, the clade with Sisoroidea plus Aspredinidae was considered sister to Doradoidea plus Mochokidae. Within the Auchenipteridae, the results support the monophyly of the Centromochlinae and Auchenipterinae. The latter is composed of Tocantinsia, and four monophyletic units, two small with Asterophysus and Liosomadoras, and Pseudotatia and Pseudauchenipterus, respectively, and two large ones with the remaining genera. Within the Doradidae, parsimony analysis recovered Wertheimeria as sister to Kalyptodoras, composing a clade sister to all remaining doradids, which include Franciscodoras and two monophyletic groups: Astrodoradinae (plus Acanthodoras and Agamyxis) and Doradinae (new arrangement). Wertheimerinae, new subfamily, is described for Kalyptodoras and Wertheimeria. Doradinae is corroborated as monophyletic and composed of four groups, one including Centrochir and Platydoras, the other with the large-size species of doradids (except Oxydoras), another with Orinocodoras, Rhinodoras, and Rhynchodoras, and another with Oxydoras plus all the fimbriate-barbel doradids. Based on the results, the species of Opsodoras are included in Hemidoras; and Tenellus, new genus, is described to include Nemadoras trimaculatus, N. leporhinus and Nemadoras ternetzi. Due to conflicting hypotheses of the phylogenetic position of Acanthodoras, Agamyxis, and Franciscodoras, these are considered as incertae sedis in Doradidae. All suprageneric taxa of the Doradoidea are diagnosed based on synapomorphic morphological characteristics.Uma análise filogenética com base em 311 caracteres morfológicos é apresentada para a maioria das espécies de Doradidae, todos os gêneros de Auchenipteridae e representantes de outras 16 famílias de Siluriformes. A hipótese de consenso entre as seis árvores mais parcimoniosas corrobora o monofiletismo do grupo Sul-americano Doradoidea (Doradidae mais Auchenipteridae), bem como o de Doradoidea mais a família Africana Mochokidae. O clado de Sisoroidea mais Aspredinidae é considerado como grupo-irmão de Doradoidea mais Mochokidae. Dentre os Auchenipteridae, os resultados corroboraram o monofiletismo de Centromochlinae e Auchenipterinae. Osteological and soft anatomical features of representatives of poeciliine genera were studied to test the monophyly of the poeciliine tribes and to advance a hypothesis of relationships within the subfamily. The resultant hypothesis supports the proposal of a new classification for the subfamily Poeciliinae. Diagnoses are provided for suprageneric clades. The tribe Tomeurini is resurrected and the new tribes Brachyrhaphini and Priapichthyini as well as the supertribe Poeciliini are described. New usages of old tribe names are proposed based on the phylogenetic framework.Caracteres osteológicos e da anatomia mole de representantes dos gêneros de poeciliíneos foram estudados para se testar a monofilia das tribos de Poeciliinae e para propor uma hipótese de relações dentro da subfamília. A hipótese resultante suporta a proposição de uma nova classificação para a subfamília Poeciliinae. São fornecidas diagnoses para os clados supragenêricos. A tribo Tomeurini é ressuscitada e as novas tribos Brachyrhaphini e Priapichthyini bem como a supertribo Poeciliini são descritas. Novos usos para antigos nomes de tribos são propostos com base no arranjo filogenético.

A new species of Characidium Reinhardt, 1867 (Characiformes: Crenuchidae) endemic to the Atlantic Forest in Paraná State, southern Brazil

A new species of Characidium is described based on specimens obtained from the highland streams of the Serra do Mar, Atlantic Forest Biome, in Paraná State, Southern Brazil. The new species is possibly a member member of the C. lauroi group, which is diagnosed by having the isthmus unscaled, bars poorly marked, and spots on sides of body, and is composed by four additional species: C. japuhybense; C. lauroi; C. oiticicai; and C. schubarti. The new species differs from its congeners with naked isthmus, except C. helmeri, by having 15-18 principal caudal-fin rays; and 10-12 pectoral-fin rays; and from C. helmeri, by having a slender body, tip of pectoral fin not reaching origin of pelvic fin, tip of pelvic fin not reaching beyond anus, supraorbital present and well developed, and by lacking vertically elongated dashes on sides of body. The new species is known from tributaries of the rio Jordão, in the rio Iguaçu Basin, and rio Taquari, a tributary of the rio Ribeira de Iguape coastal drainage.Uma nova espécie de Characidium é descrita com base em exemplares obtidos de riachos de altitude da Serra do Mar, no bioma Mata Atlântica, do Estado do Paraná, Sul do Brasil. A nova espécie é possivelmente um membro do grupo C. lauroi, que pode ser diagnosticado por possuir o istmo sem escamas, barras pouco marcadas e pontos nos lados do corpo, e é composto por quatro espécies adicionais: C. japuhybense; C. lauroi; C. oiticicai; e C. schubarti. A nova espécie difere de seus congêneres com istmo nú, exceto C. helmeri, por possuir 15-18 raios principais na nadadeira caudal, e 10-12 raios na nadadeira peitoral; e de C. helmeri, por possuir o corpo mais alongado, pela ponta da nadadeira peitoral não alcançar a nadadeira pélvica, pela ponta da nadadeira pélvica não alcançar o ânus, pelo supraorbital presente e bem desenvolvido, e pela ausência de manchas verticalmente alongadas na porção ventral do corpo. A nova espécie é conhecida de duas drenagens, nos tributários do rio Jordão, na bacia do rio Iguaçu, e no rio Taquari, um tributário da bacia costeira do rio Ribeira de Iguape.
