Accreditation is the recognition that an educational activity meets certain standards. The processes for accreditation vary considerably depending on the type of activity, and currently there are differing accreditation systems in place for pharmacy continuing education (CE) across different countries. Research was carried out on a selection of these systems with the aim of developing a catalogue of accreditation approaches, and exploring the possibility of developing a common framework for the accreditation of pharmacy CE activities. Accreditation processes from the countries represented by the Global Forum on Quality Assurance of Continuing Education and Continuing Professional Development (GFQACE) were reviewed to explore the themes and patterns in them. This informed the development of a proposed accreditation framework for CE activities for pharmacists. A Delphi method over four rounds involving seven participants from each GFQACE organisation was used as a consensus building technique. Agreement was achieved on including 15 items in the framework within four stages (Input, Process, Output, and Quality Improvement). The GFQACE steering group indicated their intention to use the resultant framework as the basis for the exploration of mutual recognition of accreditation between member countries.

Objectives: To determine the type of CME/CPD sessions attended by doctors, identify the problems with implementation of CME/CPD program and propose possible solutions for successful implementation of CME/CPD Program. Methods: This was a concurrent triangulation mixed method study. Quantitative questionnaires were filled by faculty and physicians from different specialties. The qualitative component had both focus groups and in depth interviews conducted with different professional bodies (PMA), faculty JSMU, College of Family Physicians. This study was done in 2016-2017. Results: More than half of the participants (53.6%) reported that CPD/CME should be mandatory. Doctors who had graduated from outside Karachi were significantly less likely to report CPD/CME to be mandatory as compared to graduates from Karachi (p=0.004).Top three factors which influenced HCP’s to attend CPD/CME included career progression (65.1%), interest (54.7%) and knowledge gap (50.5%). The most common perceived barriers were lack of study leave, cost and work-life imbalance. The implementation issues expressed by different stakeholders included lack of doctor’s interest, busy clinical schedule and poor accessibility. Conclusion: Mostly medical practioners believe that CPD program is an important step toward enabling physicians to demonstrate their competency and professionalism to themselves and others. Study Design: Retrospective data analysis study. Objective: Attending continuing professional development (CPD) and continuing medical education (CME) activities is a necessity for practicing surgeons in most parts of the world. To enhance best practices in conducting CME/CPD, objective evaluation of these events is crucial. This article aims to evaluate one such international standardized CPD course conducted for facial surgeons across the globe. The Management of Facial Trauma course was developed by an international planning committee of experienced surgeons and has been implemented in all regions of the world. Method: This 2-day course is delivered using a combination of short lectures, small group discussions, and practical hands-on activities. Data collected from pre- and post-course evaluations of 86 Management of Facial Trauma courses conducted worldwide from 2017-2019 were collated and analyzed. Results: Participant demographics and experience levels varied slightly across the regions. Evaluation of the course effectiveness revealed overall high ratings for educational impact, content usefulness, and faculty performance. Conclusion: Our results indicated that this standardized course met the audience needs and enabled participants to plan changes in clinical practice. In addition, it confirmed that the course was relevant across different specialties and across different cultures and countries.
