The Future Rôle of the Public Health Inspector

Abstract

OR many reasons the time is opportune for serious thoughts on this subject. This paper is not a stateJt-ment of policy, or even of opinions, but is simply a philosophical review of a situation in which an important body of health workers presently find themselves; it is also a considered, though quite personal, estimate of the possibilities for the future. Consequently, in accepting this invitation, the author decided not to devote valuable time and space to an extensive bibliography, to statistical matter or to an historical review, which might have little relevance to current affairs. Also much that has to be discussed is controversial, and should be accepted as a challenge to reason, rather than as a pin-prick to the emotions.
