The GATA-binding protein CGF-1 is closely related to GT-1

Abstract: Many light-regulated genes contain a conserved GATA motif in their 5'-upstream region. We have characterized in detail the GATA-binding factor, CGF-1, which bonds within a 73 bp TATA-proximal light/circadian regulatory element in the Arabidopsis cab2 promoter and to two more sites farther upstream. CGF-1 was found to be distinct from other metal-dependent GATA-binding factors, but to have the same sequence requirements for binding and similar physical and chemical properties as GT-1, a factor required for ligh… Show more

“…Arabidopsis pmsr has a single intron of 422 nt and two exons of 522 and 252 nt, respectively. There were no obvious TATA boxes near the pmsr transcriptional start site, although a GATA box, which has been shown to play an important role in regulating lightcontrolled genes (Teakle and Kay, 1995), was observed 48 nt upstream of the transcriptional start site. This gene encoded a 258-residue, 28,568-D protein with a putative plastidial targeting signal and was termed p-pmsr.…”

“…miR172 and miR393 had GATAbox, which has been proposed to regulate light response [64,65] and to be related to cold stress. [8,66] In plants, most ABA-responsive genes have the conserved ABREs in their promoters, which are significant cis-acting elements for genes responsive to abiotic stress in Arabidopsis.…”

“…Circadian rhythms of the GUS mRNA was retained, and this may indicate that light responsive elements were present within the construct since light responsive and circadian elements may be inseparable . Many light and circadian regulated genes contain GATA motifs in their promoters (Teakle and Kay 1995). Five GATA motifs were found within the 700 bp upstream of the transcription start site, but their role in regulation of transcription of the bean NIA genes has not been clarified (Jensen et al 1996).…”
