The generalizability of the Youth Self-Report syndrome structure in 23 societies.

Abstract: As a basis for theories of psychopathology, clinical psychology and related disciplines need sound taxonomies that are generalizable across diverse populations. To test the generalizability of a statistically derived 8-syndrome taxonomic model for youth psychopathology, confirmatory factor analyses (CFAs) were performed on the Youth Self-Report (T. M. Achenbach & L. A. Rescorla, 2001) completed by 30,243 youths 11-18 years old from 23 societies. The 8-syndrome taxonomic model met criteria for good fit to the d… Show more

“…Both internal and external scales have also been implemented and validated in studies in more than 30 societies (Ivanova et al, 2007a and2007b) as well as in other studies in China (e.g., Chen et al, 2002). 8 The Rasch model (Rasch 1960(Rasch , 1961) is a commonly used IRT model for binary responses.…”

“…Sus reactivos están organizados en ocho grupos de síndromes, cuya estructura fue probada en 23 países (Ivanova et al, 2007). Dicha estructura de 89 reactivos fue adaptada y validada en jóvenes mexicanos, confirmando mediante modelamiento de expectativas laborales en adolescentes ecuaciones estructurales la estructura de ocho síndromes propuesta por los autores y con confiabilidades alpha que fluctúan entre .63 y .87 para los ocho síndromes individuales (Palomar, 2015b).…”

“…The YSR 11-18 (Achenbach, version for 11-18 year-olds) (Achenbach, & Rescorla, 2001) is one of the most commonly used scales for rating juvenile behavior and it is used internationally in the clinical setting and in research. It is in the form of a questionnaire completed by adolescents, and it has been translated and validated for Italians too (Frigerio et al, 2006;Ivanova et al, 2007). The questionnaire yields two profiles: one for competences (activities, social functioning, school performance) and one for behavioral and emotional problems, which can be assessed as "normal", "borderline" or "clinical" on 8 specific syndrome scales.…”
