The Glittre Activities of Daily Living Test in patients with acromegaly: Associations with hand function and health-related quality of life

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders in acromegaly compromise upper and lower limb activity. Corresponding changes can be better assessed by a functional capacity test incorporating multitasking, such as the Glittre Activities of Daily Living Test (GA-T). OBJECTIVES: To evaluate functional capacity in adults with acromegaly using the GA-T and to correlate functional capacity with hand function and health-related quality of life. METHODS: The GA-T was applied to 36 patients with acromegaly and an equal number … Show more

“…It is possible that the learning effect has an impact on the CF population, which is mostly composed of young adults with a preserved level of cognition who can better memorize the TGlittre task sequence. Since squatting to perform shelf tasks has been identified as the most difficult part of TGlittre (de Alegria, Kasuki, Gadelha, & Lopes, 2021;Nonato et al, 2020) and considering that CF does not cause joint damage, we believe that this may have played a role in their better performance in the second test. Taken together, these findings indicate the need for at least two tests to obtain reliable assessments in CF adults.…”

“…Squatting is a difficult task for many people, as it involves multiple muscular and biomechanical aspects ( de Alegria et al, 2021 ). In fact, almost half of our sample pointed out that squatting to perform shelving tasks was their biggest difficulty to fulfil the TGlittre tasks.…”

“…The protocol was performed twice with a 30-min interval or until signs and symptoms returned to baseline. The TGlittre of shorter duration was used for analysis because of the learning effect associated with this test ( de Alegria et al, 2021 ; Reis et al, 2018 ). Thus, the interpretation of TGlittre time was based on comparisons of data measured in an individual patient with reference (predicted) values based on healthy subjects ( Reis et al, 2018 ).…”

“…When performing the TGlittre, the individual must attempt to complete five laps in the shortest time possible. 28 In TGlittre, the variable used to evaluate performance during the test is the total time to complete the tasks; therefore, the shorter the time, the better the patient's performance. The TGlittre time was compared to Brazilian predicted values 29 ; therefore, the higher the TGlittre time value in relation to the predicted value, the worse the patient's performance will be.…”
