The global energy balance of the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak determined with the revised cooling water calorimetry

A Redl,
T Hohmann,
T Eich
et al.

Abstract: An extensive analysis of the global energy balance on the ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) tokamak has been performed. For such a purpose a complete revamping of the AUG cooling water calorimetry originally described in [T. Richter and H. Vernickel, Review of Scientific Instruments \textbf{65}, 5 (1994)] has been done. The system, which has been largely improved, consists of 88 cooling units, which provides an almost perfect toroidal and poloidal coverage of the in-vessel components of the AUG tokamak. To measure the energ… Show more

“…As the upper divertor is not connected with the main plasma, the increase of energy loads is associated with an increase of cross-field transport [1]. The tomographic reconstructions and poloidal radiative heat load distributions of discharge #39231 in [35] indicate a strong localised radiation pattern between the upper X-point and the upper divertor plates.…”

“…Right: poloidal cross section of AUG indicating the coverage of the cooling units (colour highlighted areas and labels) available through the revised cooling water calorimetry. Each purple marker indicates one thermocouple providing an additional high-spatial poloidal coverage of the lower/upper divertor in single segments of AUG. Reproduced from [35]. © IOP Publishing Ltd.
