The Growth of Moringa Seedling Originated from Various Sizes of Stem Cutting

Abstract: The ddevelopment of an efficient technique for vegetative propagation would be a benefit for the nursery industry for the production of some clones with desirable characters. This study was conducted to develop a vegetative propagation protocol of Moringa oleifera using some different sizes of cutting started from April to July 2017. The factorial experiment was used, in which the first factor was stem cutting length (25cm, 50 cm, and 75 cm), and the second one was stem cutting diameter (3.0-4.0 cm, 4.1-5.0 cm… Show more

“…Two-node cuttings exhibited significantly higher root length and stem diameter compared to one-node cuttings (p < 0.05) (Table 3). Santoso et al (2009) noted the importance of cutting size in ensuring sufficient reserves for seedling growth and development. Interestingly, the final transplant success remained unaffected by genotype, node number, or their interaction (p > 0.05) (Table 1).…”

“…Propagation period and hormone treatments could significantly increase root length and number (Badawy et al, 2020), which was clearly visible from our results, the cutting propagated in May root number and length were significantly increase from the July propagation period. Stem cutting length and diameter are affecting the adventitious root formation: at Moringa stem cuttings between 50-57 cm recorded positive results (Santoso and Parwata, 2020).…”
