“…Optical quality single crystals of appreciable size can be grown by the controlled diffusion of the appropriate ionic species in a neutral gel matrix. Using this method, we have succeeded in growing good crystals of a few malates [9][10][11], malonates [12][13] and maleates [14][15][16]. In this paper, we report for the first time, the growth of crystals of appreciable size by the coordination of malic acid with barium.…”

“…This shift in O-H vibrational frequency towards the lower frequency side reflects the extensive hydrogen bonding present in the crystal structure. The bands at 1194cm -1 and 934cm -1 may be due to the symmetric and antisymmetric stretching of C-C bonds [19]. These bands are absent in the spectrum of DSM indicating the complete deprotonation of -COOH group, which is evident from the single crystal XRD data.…”

“…Generally anions were introduced in molecular salt compositions to provide alignment of the molecules [4]. Growth and characterisations of calcium malate and strontium malate have also been reported earlier [5][6]. Present study reports the synthesis and characterisation of the drug molecule trimethoprim [5-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)pyrimidine-2,4-diamine] with racemic malic acid (2-hydroxy-1,4-butanedioic acid) as the anionic building block.…”
