It is believed that T. saimirii resembles Trypanosoma (Megatrypanum) minasense Chagas in blood trypomastigotes, but the former infects triatomine bugs and develops profusely in Novy, McNeal and Nicolle (NNN) medium, while T. minasense does not (T. minasense may be cultured under special condictions, but not only in NNN, see Ziccardi et al 1996).
